Installing crawl space insulation is a great way increase your home’s comfort. The loss of heat through your crawl space is often underestimated, and it can result in using your central heating far more often than you need to. This makes crawl space insulation a wise investment as it can actually save you money in the long run through reduced energy bills.
Moisture can also enter your crawl space, and this can result in dry rot and wet rot which can cost a small fortune to repair! Our ThermalDry waterproof foil insulation keeps your crawl space warm and dry while also acting as an vapour barrier.

The installation process for crawl space insulation will depend on whether the crawl space is ventilated or not. An unventilated crawl space is easier to insulate as you will only have to apply the insulation on the walls of the foundation rather than on the crawl space ceiling.
If your crawl space is ventilated, which it is in the majority of properties, you will need to prepare your crawl space by sealing all of the vents and holes.
In older properties, ventilation tends to mean air vents at opposite sides of the property. The idea behind these parallel vents is to let air flow through one vent and leave through the other - taking moist air with it. However, the theory behind this type of ventilation has long been debunked. We now know that air flows upwards into a property, and this takes the damp, musty crawl space air up into your home. To alleviate this, a vapour barrier can be installed. These are designed to prevent water vapour and humidity from passing into your crawl space.
After a ventilated crawl space has been sealed, the insulation can be installed. This will help retain heat in your property in the winter months and therefore reduce energy bills significantly.
