Failed tanking

Ask a question

In the above video we look at the tell tale signs of failed tanking. Even tiny cracks in basement tanking can allow considerable volumes of water to seep through.

The reasons for failed tanking

Tanking can fail for a number of reasons:

  • Vibrations in the ground from passing trains or small earthquakes
  • The property settling into the ground
  • A build up of water (hydrostatic) pressure behind the tanking system

Because tanking systems are cementitious they are inflexible. This means sufficiant external pressure will cause tanking systems to crack and ultimately fail. Internal and external basement waterproofing methods are available to replace failed tanking systems.
